A T1 line is basically a type of telephone line. They are not the standard and widely used telephone line as they are made out of certain copper or even fibre optics and they can provide the user with a degree of being able to move large streams of data much more quickly than they could with a conventional cable.
T1 lines were made for use in the Japanese and North American markets but are becoming installed in many more countries than these. Made from twisted copper, these forms of telephone lines have become the standard for quite some time now. The lines have been used in the past for the transmission of voices and also data through the older analog signal that was used.
However, there is an upgrade underway to replace all of the older copper wires with the fibre optic but as of today, there are more copper lines around the world than there are fibre optic.
There are around ten different versions of T1 lines and here we will talk about the three main types that are used should you decide to buy a new cable.
The first type is the voice cable. The main advantage of this is that just one cable can actually handle up to twenty four telephone calls at the same time which can be very useful for businesses that have a high incoming call volume. It is able to do this by actually compressing the amount of bandwidth of 64 kbps for a standard call down to around 8 kbps without detracting from the call quality.
The second type is a channelized line. This works by splitting this into twenty four equal parts. Each of these separate parts are able to transmit speeds of 64 kbps and this form can also be attached to a PBX directly.
The third and final type that we are going to discuss is the ISDN PRI. The main difference between this and the other forms of T1 are that the ISDN use one of the twenty four channels available to be just a data channel only.
This is useful to have if you run a call centre environment as the features that come with this type of cable are things such as caller ID and the main feature is that you are able to display information about that caller on a computer and if they have any history of calling you in the past.
As we can see people slowly getting used to this type of new age technology, there are many different types of T1 lines to choose from and you should make sure that you are getting the right line for your needs.
With the upgrade happening around the world, it will not be long before we are all using these faster forms of communication and data transfer cables.
