iPhones always come with a beautiful holder to keep them safe from scratches and occupational hazards. However, the few seconds it takes for it to slip off your hands into a puddle of water or a swimming pool marks the beginning of yet another agonizing moment that every iPhone user dreads like a plague.
A water damaged iPhone 4 can result from many different ways - some can be avoid but others are just out of our control. It is for this reason you will need to know what to do when the unfortunate happens or rather in this case, when your phone gets wet. Below are steps to follow instantly once phone gets wet -
The first thing to do will be to act fast. Your phone's survival will largely depend with how quick you will respond. Once your water damaged iPhone 4 gets wet you will need to switch it off immediately. This will save your circuit board from short-circuit caused by electric current passing through a wet circuit board. Short-circuiting may have adverse effects on your iPhone including lose of applications, memory, music etc.
Secondly, you will need to remove the battery and GSM card in order to shake the water that is lodged inside the phone until there is no more from the headphone jack or from the back of the phone. However do not use a microwave or a hair dryer to keep the water damaged iPhone 4 dry. The hair dryer will simply push the water further into the crevices hence reaching the circuit board. This will in turn worsen the damage and at the same time encourage corrosion. A microwave on the other hand may eventually burn out the delicate circuit board and its components.
After this you will need to get a bowl full of dry rice. Place your phone in the middle of the bowl such that the iPhone is completely surrounded. This should last a period between 2-5 days. The reason why we are using rice is simply because it will be able to completely absorb the remaining water within your iPhone. Though this process will leave rice powder on the exterior of your water damaged iPhone 4, the interior of the screen won't be affected.
After the waiting period is over, connect the charger to your iPhone and if the charging symbol responds then your phone will switch on when the charging is complete. If the phone doesn't respond then you will need to seek the help of a specialist for further repair and troubleshooting
